/R E P E A T -- Media Advisory - Climate Change, Security, and Defence Conference: How Rising Temperatures Could Heat Up Conflicts Across the World/
OTTAWA, Nov. 13, 2015 /CNW/ - Climate change is projected to have significant impacts on global stability, potentially increasing the risk of conflict in a number of regions—from the Arctic to sub-Saharan Africa and from the Middle East to South-East Asia. However, the discourse in Canada on the potential security and defence impacts of climate change has been limited. To this effect, The Conference Board of Canada is working with a range of partners on Climate Change, Security & Defence, a conference which will bring together international and Canadian speakers to examine how climate change will impact security and defence from a global perspective, and what this ultimately means for Canadians.
Dr. Satyamoorthy Kabilan, Director National Security and Strategic Foresight, The Conference Board of Canada, will be chairing this conference. Dr Kabilan is a leading expert on national security and public safety issues, leading the Board's research in these areas as well as commenting on them in media. His latest blog, Climate Change, Security, and Defence: Why These Matter to Canadians, outlines the important global challenges presented by climate change as well as four areas where this impacts on the defence and security of Canadians.
