/R E P E A T -- Media Advisory - Emergency Exercise at YVR/
RICHMOND, BC, April 15, 2013 /CNW/ - On Wednesday, April 17, an emergency training exercise simulating an aircraft accident scenario will be staged at Vancouver International Airport (YVR) to practice emergency response plans with YVR business partners, airlines and emergency responders. This is the largest exercise ever organized by Vancouver Airport Authority and involves over 600 participants and 27 agencies.
Media are invited to cover the exercise which will take place on airport property. Spokespersons from the Airport Authority and participating agencies will be available in a media staging at the exercise site. Media will view the emergency response to an aircraft fire on land and to a simulated aircraft ocean wreckage. A number of "victims" in theatrical makeup will also be visible at the scene. Airport operations will proceed as normal.
Emergency exercises are a key part of YVR's Emergency Management Plan and are performed on a regular basis. Emergency exercises can include live scenario training, such as this exercise; table-top exercises; and emergency simulation drills.

Media must RSVP by 4:00 p.m., Tuesday April 16 to [email protected] Media will be escorted on and off the site via bus accompanied by Airport Authority staff. Media who miss the bus will not have access to the site and there will be no opportunity to leave the site early. The media area will not be covered. |
