/R E P E A T -- Media Advisory - Habitat for Humanity Greater Toronto Area celebrates the construction of its largest home to date, in the Runnymede area of Toronto/
TORONTO, April 22, 2014 /CNW/ - On April 23, 2014, Habitat for Humanity Greater Toronto Area (HFH GTA), in partnership with Modular Homes, will mark the construction of its largest home to date, assigned to HFH GTA partner family of 14, the Costa Family. The celebratory launch of this 8-bedroom, detached home will be located at 828 Runnymede Road, near Jane St. and St. Clair Avenue West, in the Runnymede area of Toronto.
Since Jose and Tanya Costa immigrated to Canada from Portugal, the two have worked tirelessly to provide for their family. The Costa's are a unique in that they have twelve children from pre-school to university, five of whom have special needs. For a family of 14, renting is not easy, and they have struggled to find a place within their budget that would house the entire family. In addition, their basement in their current rental housing is unusable due to constant repairs, and without proper insulation, the Costa's are forced to pay high rates for their gas bills.
"The Costas have been tremendously motivated around their partnership with Habitat and we are pleased to help them realize their dream of home ownership," says Ene Underwood, CEO, Habitat for Humanity Greater Toronto Area. "This project is providing not only a Habitat home, but also the opportunity for 14 people to begin a new future, and contribute to their community and city overall."
Through the support of Modular Homes and other corporate sponsors, Habitat GTA is able to provide an affordable home for the Costa family. Modular's exterior work is underway and once complete Habitat GTA volunteers will then begin work on the interior and landscaping of the home.
