/R E P E A T -- Media Advisory - London CAS workers to stage information picket Aug. 14 to protest job cuts/
LONDON, ON, Aug. 13, 2013 /CNW/ - Children's Aid Society workers in London-Middlesex represented by Local 116 of the Ontario Public Service Employees Union will stage a noon hour information picket outside of CAS offices on Oxford Street to protest the layoff of 40 staff members and to demand a moratorium on the job losses.
They will also call on the government of Kathleen Wynne to provide the necessary transitional funding as agencies like theirs are forced to move to a new model of funding.
In July the London-Middlesex CAS announced that 40 employees would be laid off due to a $4.6 million operating deficit. A meeting in London earlier this month attracted close to 300 CAS workers at which they unanimously agreed to stage the Aug. 14 demonstration.
Newly-elected London West MPP Peggy Sattler will be among the scheduled speakers at the information picket.
