MONTREAL, May 13 /CNW Telbec/ - After having been head of the Montreal Economic Institute from 1999 to 2006, Michel Kelly-Gagnon was president of the Conseil du patronat du Québec until January 2009. He was one of six people from Quebec honoured in Canada's Top 40 Under 40(TM) 2008 awards.

Over the next few years, we must engage in a constructive and realistic dialogue with Albertans. The Canadian Energy Research Institute estimates that oil investment in Alberta will add $2.857 trillion to Canada's GDP during the operating period. Rather than jeopardize these advantages through demagogy or sensationalism, an attitude more in keeping with our mutual interests would involve trying to understand the environmental challenges at issue and to develop a pragmatic approach.

Moreover, Alberta has been a natural ally of Quebec for decades, particularly regarding our relationship with the federal government. For all these reasons, the Montreal Economic Institute wishes to contribute to the establishment of a Quebec-Alberta dialogue.
