/R E P E A T -- Media Advisory - New report examines use of solitary confinement in Ontario's youth justice system/
TORONTO, Aug. 17, 2015 /CNW/ - Provincial Advocate for Children and Youth Irwin Elman will release a new report on the use of solitary confinement by 20 individual youth justice facilities across Ontario. The review, initiated by the Advocate's Office, is believed to be the first of its kind in Canada. The review also includes recommendations to further monitor and reduce use of solitary confinement by the facilities.
The Provincial Advocate for Children and Youth serves as an independent voice for children and youth who are seeking or receiving services from the children's services sector, including special needs; youth justice; child welfare; mental health and treatment centers; First Nations children and youth; developmental services; and provincial and demonstration residential schools for the deaf, blind, deaf-blind and severely learning disabled.
