/R E P E A T -- Media Advisory - Rally to protest funding cuts and job losses at Waterloo CAS/
KITCHENER, ON, Nov. 19, 2012 /CNW/ - Local Children's Aid Society workers will rally outside the agency's main office in Kitchener on November 20 to protest looming budget cuts that will eliminate as many as 30 positions and cut deeply into programs aimed at supporting child treatment and protection.
"November 20 is National Child Day across Canada," said Steve Dick, president of Local 258 in Kitchener-Waterloo representing more than 300 CAS members with the Ontario Public Service Employees Union. "But we have very little to celebrate here in Waterloo Region so we'll be drawing attention to the fact our local agency is being forced to make decisions that affect services due to a funding shortfall."
To mark the day members of Local 258 will be wearing blue ribbons and will ask members of the public to sign postcards calling on the provincial government to restore funding to preventative services and protection programs.
