/R E P E A T -- Media Advisory - RESCHEDULED: Toronto Library Workers launch bold new campaign to challenge "Precarious Work "/

TORONTO, March 3, 2016 /CNW/ – The Toronto Public Library Workers Union - Local 4948 and the Toronto Women's City Alliance will launch a campaign to highlight the growing social and economic hazards of "Precarious Work" among workers employed by the City of Toronto.

Precarious Work is typically part-time, with unstable income, no job security, no benefits and no pensions. The campaign launch, highlighted by an innovative animated short video resembling a horror movie "trailer," will come two days before Toronto's International Women's Day March. The focus will be on precarious work at the Toronto Public Library which, surprisingly to most, has the highest rate of precarious work of all City departments and agencies.

The Toronto Public Library Workers Union represents about 2200 library workers across the city in 100 branches, as well as in administrative and technical support services. Half of these workers hold jobs that are deemed "precarious" according to a recent United Way study.
