Some 190,000 students, including 26,000 from abroad, attend Montreal's four world-class universities and specialized schools, making Montreal one of the most important university cities in North America. Beyond the numbers which speak for themselves, how does the dynamic relationship express itself between the university and its city? How does the city benefit from the university's many contributions? Robert Proulx, Rector of Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM), shares his vision of the unique and essential role played by the academic institution in the economic, social and cultural development of the city.
