MONTREAL, Aug. 16, 2013 /CNW Telbec/ - The Canadian Cancer Society (CCS) - Quebec Division will present its statement on the examination of the report on the implementation of the Tobacco Act 2005-2010 before the Health and Social Services Committee on Tuesday, August 20.
Mélanie Champagne, Director, Public Issues at the CCS - Quebec Division and Rob Cunningham, lawyer and Senior Policy Analyst, CCS, will appear before the committee. They will be accompanied by Micheline Bélanger, a lung cancer survivor.
This delegation will make the CCS's position on the strengthening of the Tobacco Act known to the legislators and convey the organization's concerns about smoking among youths.
The CCS will recommend in particular:
- A ban on flavours for all tobacco products covered by the Tobacco Act.
- The regulation of electronic cigarettes.
- Plain and standardized packaging for all tobacco products.
- A moratorium on the market for new tobacco products.
Mrs. Champagne, M. Cunningham, and Mrs. Bélanger will be available for interviews (outside Premiers' Hall) on Tuesday from 9 to 9:30 a.m. and from 10:30 to 11 a.m. and on Wednesday, before noon. A copy of the CCS's statement will be provided upon request, on the premises.
