Experts from Doctors Without Borders, Oxfam-Québec, and the Canadian Research Institute on Crisis and Aid will discuss how Canada might meet the challenges of a global humanitarian system increasingly pushed to the limits of its capacity.
When: Wednesday, October 30, 2013 - 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Where: IDRC, 150 Kent Street (Corner of Albert), 8th floor
With greater frequency, humanitarian workers are required to work in situations of complex emergencies, defined by internal conflicts and political instability. Humanitarian operations increasingly require innovative programs and technologies to reach more people, in harder to reach areas, in the most cost-efficient ways, while still remaining accountable and effective.
Speakers include:
- Francois Audet - Director, Canadian Research Institute on Humanitarian Crises and Aid (OCCAH)
- Stephen Cornish - Executive Director, Doctors Without Borders
- Denise Byrnes - Executive Director, Oxfam-Québec
The discussion will be moderated by David Common, host of CBC Radio's World Report and Correspondent with CBC News.
The event is open to the media and the lecture will be webcast live at http://idrc.canwebcast.net/live. Journalists and the public can also join in the conversation through Twitter (#HumConf2013).
