TORONTO, May 7, 2013 /CNW/ - Ian Troop, chief executive officer, TORONTO 2015 Pan Am/Parapan Am Games Organizing Committee (TO2015) will present a progress update to Toronto City Council on Tuesday, May 7 at 11:30 a.m. (ET). With the TORONTO 2015 Games little more than two years away, Troop is joined by volunteers, community members and athletes who will tell the story of the Games from their own unique perspectives.
Guest speakers include:
Josh Cassidy, Paralympian, wheelchair racer
- Cassidy competed at the Beijing 2008 Beijing Paralympic Games and has continued racing, winning several major international road races including the London Marathon in 2010 and the Boston Marathon in 2012.
Newton Asare II, TO2015 Youth Advisory Council member
- As an active member of the Toronto community, Asare is an integral component in the development and promotion of Games engagement throughout the Greater Golden Horseshoe region.
Amanda Martinez, Arts and Culture Council member
- An award-winning singer and songwriter, Martinez brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the TORONTO 2015 festival program that will ignite the Pan Am/Parapan Am spirit across the Games footprint.
Clare McGovern, national junior champion, synchronized swimmer
- McGovern was recently named best junior athlete at the 2013 Canadian Open Championships. During the competition, this Pan Am Games-hopeful won gold in the national junior solo event and the duet event.
