TORONTO, April 17, 2013 /CNW/ -
Who: | Councillor Chin Lee, Ward 41 Scarborough-Rouge River and Ben LaPianta, Vice President of Distribution Grid Management at Toronto Hydro. |
More than 300 employees, friends and family of Toronto Hydro, City of Toronto staff and LEAF (Local Enhancement & Appreciation of Forests) volunteers. | |
What: | Toronto Hydro, with LEAF and the City of Toronto, is undertaking its10th annual tree planting event. Over 300 trees and shrubs will be planted in Milliken Park as part of Toronto Hydro's commitment to the environment. |
When: |
Sunday, April 21, 2013 10:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. |
Where: | Milliken Park, Scarborough (4325 McCowan Road) |
Why: | Trees are essential to battling climate change due to their natural ability to remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, directly reducing the growth of greenhouse gases. Over the next five years, Toronto will lose nearly all of its ash trees (approximately 860,000 trees) to the Emerald Ash Borer (EAB), an invasive beetle from Asia. Protecting existing trees and planting new ones is more important than ever. Toronto Hydro and its partners have planted more than 3,000 trees and shrubs since 2004. In the past two years, Toronto Hydro has planted 700 trees at the annual event. |
