/R E P E A T -- Media Advisory - Toronto West correctional officers plan info picket Aug. 16 to protest unjust firing of local union leader/
TORONTO, Aug. 15, 2012 /CNW/ - Correctional officers at Toronto West Detention Centre have planned a three-hour information picket Aug. 16 to protest the unjust dismissal of Dan Marshall, president of Local 517 represented by the Ontario Public Service Union, and two others at the facility.
The union says the firings divert attention from serious problems of overcrowding, understaffing and violence against correctional officers at the Toronto West Detention Centre. Unless these problems are addressed soon TWDC could witness the same level of violence and inmate disturbance as experienced recently at the Elgin-Middlesex Detention Centre in London.
