As part of Physically Active Montreal, the Canadian Cancer Society invites children to walk to school!
MONTREAL, May 4, 2016 /CNW Telbec/ -
- Some 15 elementary schools on the island of Montreal are participating in a Trial Trottibus Week in the spring of 2016.
- The Canadian Cancer Society's Trottibus Walking School Bus is a pedestrian school bus that runs on a planned route with scheduled stops. Children walk in groups, accompanied by adult volunteers, usually parents or neighbours.
- Only one in four children uses active transportation to go to school and hardly 5% of children in the country get enough physical exercise every day. This phenomenon is responsible for serious overweight and obesity problems across the country (nearly one in three Canadians suffers from excess weight or obesity) as well as an increased risk of developing cancer later in life. The Trottibus Walking School Bus is a way of encouraging students to get moving.
