/R E P E A T -- Media Advisory - Waterfront Toronto celebrates improvements to Tommy Thompson Park at annual Spring Bird Festival/

TORONTO, May 9, 2013 /CNW/ - Waterfront Toronto and Toronto and Region Conservation (TRCA), together with the Governments of Canada, Ontario and the City of Toronto will celebrate the official opening of the improvements to Tommy Thompson Park on Saturday, May 11, as bird watchers gather for the park's annual Spring Bird Festival.

Recognized globally as an Important Bird Area, Tommy Thompson Park has undergone significant natural area enhancements, as well as the construction of three small buildings that support public gatherings, educational events and research at the park. The improvements have been designed to support the native ecology of the area, and include features that benefit park visitors, as well as improve the local aquatic and terrestrial habitats.

WHAT:	Official Opening of the improvements to Tommy Thompson Park
WHEN:	Saturday, May 11, 2013 / 9:00 am
WHERE:	Tommy Thompson Park is located at the base of Leslie Street, just south of Unwin Avenue, on a    man-made peninsula known as the Leslie Street Spit.
PARKING:	Media parking will be available within the parking lot located just inside the park entrance.
	Media will be transported to the Environmental Shelter, where the event will take place, via shuttle from the parking lot.

Please note that because Tommy Thompson Park is a sensitive wildlife area there is a strict no dogs / no pets policy. There are no exceptions.
