First New Street in Revitalization Re-connects Neighbourhood with Downtown Toronto
TORONTO, June 4 /CNW/ - On June 12th, history will be made when Cole Street, the first new street in the Regent Park Revitalization, is formally unveiled with the support of Toronto Community Housing and The Daniels Corporation.
To celebrate this re-connection of Regent Park to the rest of downtown Toronto, a dramatic street performance will take place on Saturday, June 12th. The public is invited.
Coleman Lemieux & Compagnie (CLC), a professional dance organization and Regent Park's resident dance company, will debut a site-specific performance piece featuring famed Canadian countertenor Daniel Taylor.
Recognized for their creative, unusual and daring productions, CLC will present a series of surprising and moving performances throughout the first phase of the Regent Park Revitalization. CLC presented the acclaimed "Breaking Ground" last summer to mark the re-construction of the neighbourhood.
In addition, Jackie Richardson, Canada's leading gospel, blues and jazz singer and Sterling Jarvis (We Will Rock You), will perform a special song written for the occasion by Daniels' President Mitchell Cohen. Jackie and Sterling will be backed by members of the Nelson Mandela Park Public School Choir and Regent Park's own Tynes Family Singers.
