CALGARY, Nov. 18 /CNW/ - On November 22, 2010, employees from Delta's four Calgary area hotels will reveal their culinary artistic flair by displaying a giant-size gingerbread house that was made using 28,000 candies. The structure, which stands 4-feet tall by 4-feet wide, is to commemorate a $28,000 donation from Delta in support of Habitat for Humanity Calgary.
The money was raised after all four Delta properties orchestrated a successful "Thrill of the Grill" BBQ series which consisted of hosting various BBQ themed fundraising events over the summer months.
General Managers from the four Delta hotels will be joined by Delta's President and CEO Hank Stackhouse, to handover a cheque in the amount of $28,000 to Leslie Tamagi, President and CEO of Habitat for Humanity Calgary.
The money raised will go towards Habitat for Humanity Calgary's newest project located in the town of Cochrane. Construction recently began on the first of two, five-plex multifamily units along Sibbald Street. Currently in Calgary, there are 72,195 households in need of affordable housing.
The giant gingerbread house structure will be on display in the lobby of the Delta Bow Valley for one-week, and then transferred to the Delta Lodge at Kananaskis over the holiday season, in an effort to raise additional funds for Habitat.
Habitat for Humanity Canada is the national charitable partner of Delta Hotels and Resorts. Each Delta property across the chain is working with the Habitat affiliate in their local community to raise money, volunteer and help further the cause of affordable housing.
