TORONTO, Nov. 4, 2014 /CNW/ - Tomorrow, CIBC (TSX: CM) (NYSE: CM) is hosting approximately 400 Grade 9 students of Toronto-area CIBC employees, in addition to 14 students from the Regent Park and Lawrence Heights Pathways to Education programs as part of Take Our Kids to Work Day (TOKWD).
Pathways to Education helps youth in low-income communities graduate from high school and successfully transition into post-secondary education by providing academic, financial and social support.
CIBC's Take Our Kids to Work Day will include interactive tours, a presentation on CIBC's approach to diversity and inclusion, and job-shadowing. Pathways to Education students will be paired with members of the CIBC Black Employee Network (CBEN), who will help them learn about careers in financial services.
"By including the Pathways to Education students in our annual event, we're encouraging them to start thinking about their career options," said Andrea Nalyzyty, Vice-President, Employee Relations, CIBC. "By placing them with mentors from CBEN, we're able to share with them the opportunities that an inclusive workplace and a good education can provide."

This annual program, celebrating its 20th anniversary, introduces Grade 9 students to jobs and professions by allowing them to shadow employees in a variety of businesses for a full or half-day.
TOKWD has enabled more than 1.7 million Grade 9 students learn first-hand about the working world in over 75,000 workplaces across Canada. CIBC has participated in the program since its inception in 1994 as it aligns with our community investment focus on kids, cures and community.
