/R E P E A T -- Media Invitation - Polytechnique announces the first recipient of the Order of the White Rose in tribute to the victims of December 6, 1989/ Français
MONTRÉAL, Nov. 23, 2015 /CNW Telbec/ - Polytechnique Montréal cordially invites members of the media to attend the presentation of the first $30,000 Order of the White Rose scholarship, awarded to a Canadian woman engineering student who wishes to enrol in graduate studies in engineering (master's or PhD) at the institution of her choice in Canada or elsewhere in the world. The ceremony will be held in the presence of the Polytechnique community on Wednesday, November 25, 2015, at 2 p.m. at Galerie Rolland, on the 6th floor of Polytechnique's main building.
The Order of the White Rose was established last year as part of activities marking the 25th anniversary of the tragic events of December 6, 1989, which claimed the lives of 14 young women and injured several others. Polytechnique created this scholarship as a tribute to the victims as well as the injured, their families, faculty members, employees and students who are forever affected by the tragedy.
A prestigious jury composed of principals, presidents or deans of Canadian universities and chaired by Michèle Thibodeau-DeGuire, Principal and Chair of the Polytechnique Board of Directors, reviewed the applications submitted and came to a unanimous choice.
To present the scholarship to the first recipient, Polytechnique CEO Christophe Guy will be joined by the two Order of the White Rose ambassadors, Ms. Thibodeau-DeGuire and Nathalie Provost, a Polytechnique graduate who was injured in the tragedy.
The event will be held mainly in English.
