The first clubhouse of its kind in Quebec based on the International Centre for Clubhouse Development model
MONTREAL, Sept. 30 /CNW Telbec/ - Barbara and Philip Silverberg cordially invite members of the media to the grand opening of the Donald Berman Up House, a new facility offering adults living with mental illness the opportunity for greater self-determination, improved self-esteem and self-worth. Based on the ICCD clubhouse model founded in New York in 1948, the Donald Berman Up House is the first facility of its kind in Quebec. There are currently 350 accredited clubhouses world-wide and 20 in Canada.
The Up House has a state of the art kitchen facility, new computer terminals, media screens and open and inviting work areas. It provides a non-judgmental, supportive environment within a "work-ordered day" where staff and members participate in policy and program planning, operations, facility upkeep and maintenance. Decisions are made by consensus and members have an opportunity to provide input, creating a shared sense of ownership for the facility and its programs.
