/R E P E A T -- Moose Knuckles resolves its differences with the Competition Bureau of Canada/ Français
MONTREAL, Dec. 6, 2016 /CNW Telbec/ - Moose International, Inc., the Canadian design-house and manufacturer of Moose Knuckles premium and luxury coats, outerwear and sportswear, is pleased to announce that it has worked hand-in-hand with the Competition Bureau of Canada to resolve any concerns regarding representations that certain Moose Knuckles' branded products are made in Canada. All issues have now been settled to the satisfaction of both parties.
The settlement between Moose Knuckles and the Bureau will secure the continued employment of hundreds of skilled Canadian workers employed in the manufacturing of Moose Knuckles premium and luxury coats including designers, fabric and garment engineers, production coordinators and managers, sewing operators, quality assurance and management personnel and many others.
Under the terms of the settlement the Competition Bureau does not seek any penalty against Moose Knuckles for any breach of the Competition Act.
Moose Knuckles appreciates the guidance it has received from the Bureau to enhance the information available to consumers and has reaffirmed its implementation of the Bureau's "Made in Canada" Guidelines as a benchmark for its communications to the public. Like virtually all garments made in Canada, Moose Knuckles uses textiles and components from abroad in the Canadian manufacture of its premium and luxury products. Virtually no woven fabrics have been manufactured in Canada for many years. The vast majority of Canadian garment manufacturers have had to source materials from other countries in keeping with the move to global supply chains which prevails in today's manufacturing. Moose Knuckles has agreed to accompany it's "made in Canada" representations with qualifying language to make it clear to consumers that it's made in Canada products are manufactured in Canada using "Canadian and imported components". Moose Knuckles is proud to be the first and only Canadian garment manufacturer to expand its made in Canada representations by adding that it uses the finest materials sourced from around the world. Moose Knuckles will also make certain adjustments to its production processes which further support Canadian workers.
As a symbol of the joint efforts made by Moose Knuckles and the Bureau to resolve this matter, Moose Knuckles is pleased to announce that it will increase its Canadian and international charitable donations to more than $150,000 per year, to include the United Way of Winnipeg's Koats for Kids program, Dans la Rue of Montreal, the Snowsuit Fund of Ottawa, the Moncton Headstart Coats for Kids program, and the Dreamcatcher Charitable Foundation, all charities that support the needs of underprivileged children in Canada by, among other things, providing them with warm winter coats to help protect them from the harsh Canadian winters. Moose Knuckles is proudly Canadian and has made meaningful contributions to various Canadian charities for several years, including "Fuck Cancer", other cancer charities as well as Canadian charities for the arts.
"Moose Knuckles is proud to celebrate its success by giving back to Canadians in need" said Noah Stern, CEO of Moose International Inc. "Moose Knuckles would like to thank the Bureau for its leadership in promoting the interests of Canadian consumers and its commitment to helping small and medium sized Canadian businesses to compete on a level playing field in Canada and on the world stage." "Moose Knuckles long ago applied the Competition Bureau's made in Canada Guidelines as the benchmark for organizing our complex global manufacturing processes and the proper labeling of our garments. Our brand may be cheeky, but we take seriously our commitment to Canadian manufacturing and working within the framework outlined by the Competition Bureau in its Guidelines. We look forward to working with the Bureau into the future to encourage other Canadian coat manufacturers and garment manufacturers to follow Moose's lead in fully informing consumers about their own "made in Canada" products."
Moose has from its very beginnings invested in Canadian manufacturing. The company currently manufactures in Canada, with over 400 Canadians employed in several Canadian garment factories as well as in the design, quality maintenance, production, and distribution of its core coat collection, including producing premium Canadian materials with its Canadian partners in Montreal, Toronto, Winnipeg and elsewhere in Canada. As a result of its Canadian manufacturing process, Moose injects millions of dollars annually into the Canadian economy, while preserving a long tradition of Canadian manufacturing and craftsmanship.
