Literature Lovers to Gather at Annual Scotiabank Giller Light Bash, in support of Frontier College on November 9, 2010
TORONTO, Nov. 4 /CNW/ - On Tuesday, November 9, 2010, for the ninth year, Toronto's literary community will come together to celebrate this year's best in Canadian fiction at the Scotiabank Giller Light Bash, in support of Frontier College - Canada's original literacy organization.
Hosted by MTV's Aliya-Jasmine Sovani, the Scotiabank Giller Light Bash continues to raise awareness for literacy throughout a fun-filled evening featuring a live broadcast of the literary award. In its nine year history, Toronto's most alternative Giller party has raised more than $150,000 for Frontier College's literacy programs.
"Literacy is the key to so many opportunities. Events such as the Scotiabank Giller Light Bash's support of literacy can help Canadians unlock the door to a new life," says Sherry Campbell, President, Frontier College. "We are helping people improve their literacy skills so that they can reach their potential at home, at work, in school and in their communities."
"The value of literacy can't be overstated and the ability to read and understand the written word is critical to our every day lives," said Rob Mattacott, Scotiabank District Vice-President, Toronto region. "The Scotiabank Giller Prize and the Giller Light Bash help us celebrate Canadian fiction and the contribution these writers make to the richness of life and culture in this country, while making literature more accessible to everyone."

About the Scotiabank Giller Light Bash
What started as a small celebration nine years ago, the Scotiabank Giller Light Bash has grown to a full-scale fundraising event thanks to a dedicated team of volunteers from the publishing industry. The event combines a taste of the Scotiabank Giller Prize Gala formalities with a unique urban twist. Guests will be entertained with raffles and door prizing, will cast their votes and Guess the Giller, and will watch the Gala broadcast live by CTV from the Four Seasons Hotel in Toronto.
