QUEBEC CITY, Feb. 18, 2015 /CNW Telbec/ - A special event will be held tomorrow, February 19th, to launch the campaign to help St-Lawrence campus of Champlain Regional College become an independent college—un cégep à part entière.
Rallying around the theme ʺBring us homeʺ, this event will be an opportunity for the friends of St-Lawrence to launch a petition at Quebec's National Assembly to request independence for St-Lawrence, the only post-secondary educational institution in English in the greater Quebec city region. (Petition: https://www.assnat.qc.ca/en/exprimez-votre-opinion/petition/Petition-5135/index.html).
Among the guests at this festive event, we note many personalities for the greater Quebec City region including representatives from feeder schools, Laval University, community groups in the region, socio-economic actors as well as past and present students and employees.
William Courteau, President of the SLC Student Association, Lisa Birch, President of the teachers' union, Joanne Kevytos, secretary of the Support Staff Union, Chris Brosseau, President of the professionals' union, Nicole Lefebvre, vice-president of the Fédération nationale des enseignantes et des enseignants du Québec (FNEEQ-CSN), in charge of cegeps, Christine Kerr, President of the Champlain St. Lambert Teachers' Association as well as other representatives from the St. Lambert campus of Champlain Regional College, as well as Richard Gauvin, Vice-President of the Conseil central Québec-Chaudière Appalaches will also be present at this event.
