Law Day 2010 to Take Place During the Week of April 12th

TORONTO, April 8 /CNW/ - The Ontario Bar Association (OBA) will be celebrating the 28th Annual Law Day with a growing list of exciting, engaging and educational province-wide programs for all Ontarians. While Law Day 2010 officially falls on Thursday, April 15th, events celebrating Law Day will take place throughout the week of April 12th to 16th. Co-chairing the Law Day 2010 committee are Virginia MacLean, Q.C. and Shelley Timms.

Highlights will include the Secondary School Mock Trial finals taking place in Toronto, court tours in communities across Ontario including the Supreme Court of Canada and the OBA's phone-a-lawyer program. New for Law Day 2010 is the Mock Mediation Program taking place in Barrie.

"The OBA Law Day program was founded in 1982 as a celebration of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms and has grown to a full fledge celebration of the world class justice system that is a cornerstone of Ontario's society," said MacLean.

Timms added, "We are looking forward to engaging citizens of all ages in the wide variety of programs that we are running over the course of the week surrounding Law Day."

The week will be kicked off with the Law Day Symposium, which brings together approximately 400 students for an afternoon of dynamic small group workshops as part of Law Week events. Workshops which take place as part of the afternoon Law Symposium are facilitated by members of the legal community and focus on a range of topical legal issues in areas such as employment law, human rights law, criminal law, and aboriginal law.

A highlight of every Law Day is the Secondary School Mock Trial finals, which will take place on Thursday, April 15th. The semi-finals and finals will be held at the Federal Tax Court in Toronto.

High school students will also be participating in the OBA So You Think You Can Sue? program on Tuesday, April 13th and the Charter and You program on Friday, April 16th.
