/R E P E A T -- Ontario Place symposium Dec. 1 to study alternatives to proposed condo plan/

TORONTO, Nov. 30, 2012 /CNW/ - Impresario David Mirvish, urban planner Ken Greenberg and architect critic Lisa Rochon will be among more than 40 participants scheduled to attend a design charrette Dec. 1 intended to study alternative proposals for the future of Ontario Place.

The gathering of blue-chip design architects, urban landscape professionals and environmental graphic artists will pull together an "alternative vision to what Ontario Place could be in place of the provincial government's current plan for condominiums and a resort," said Ontario Public Service Employees Union president Warren (Smokey) Thomas. The design charrette is a joint effort by OPSEU, the Martin Prosperity Institute and the Design Industry Advisory Committee.

Others scheduled to attend include Eberhard Zeidler, the founding architect of Ontario Place, Matthew Blakett of Spacing Magazine, and internationally-renowned architect Tarek El-Khatib.

The one-day design charrette has been organized to include smaller break-out groups that, by day's end, will produce alternative design and landscape renderings for the 155-acre waterfront site.
