The Coalition of Physicians for Social Justice denounces Bill 52 which appears to be illegal since euthanasia doctors could be prosecuted criminally and the Quebec legislature could be brought before the Supreme Court of Canada. The Coalition asks the public to look at the casualties of the Belgian experience.
Mr. Dominique Talarico, lawyer, will announce that the Coalition of Physicians for Social Justice will seek permission to intervene in the case of Gloria Taylor and Kathleen Carter in British Columbia if the recent decision of the Court of Appeal of British Columbia is appealed to the Supreme Court of Canada.
Dr. Georges Casteur, a Belgian family physician and former director IMBO (a neurological rehabilitation centre in Ostend from 1976 to 2012) will show how ten years of euthanasia in Belgium has been a slippery slope that is now allowing young people who are tired of life or depressed to be euthanized on demand.
Dr. Paul Saba, a family physician and co-president of the Coalition of Physicians for Social Justice will demonstrate how Bill 52 will enable and encourage young people with physical illness such as cancer or psychological problems such as depression to abandon medical treatment that could otherwise save their lives. The position against euthanasia is supported by the World Medical Association representing nine million physicians.
