20,000 people are expected to participate in Centraide's March of 1,000 Umbrellas through downtown Montreal
MONTREAL, Sept. 27 /CNW Telbec/ - On Tuesday, September 28, part of the downtown area will be closed to traffic on account of the 19th edition of Centraide's March of 1,000 Umbrellas, which will launch Centraide of Greater Montreal's 2010 campaign.
Between 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., McGill College Avenue (west side) will be closed to traffic between President Kennedy Avenue and St. Catherine Street West.
From 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., St. Catherine Street West from McGill College Avenue to St. Alexandre Street, St. Alexandre Street, between St. Catherine Street and René-Lévesque Blvd., and two westbound lanes on René-Lévesque Blvd., between St. Alexandre Street and De Bleury Street, will be closed to traffic as well.
Centraide's March of 1,000 Umbrellas will bring together some 20,000 volunteers, community workers and leaders of business, the public sector and the trade unions. The general public is invited to join them for this great demonstration of caring.
Participants will begin assembling at 11:30 a.m. on McGill College Avenue (at the corner of St. Catherine Street). The march will begin at 12:00 noon and proceed east along St. Catherine to the SNC-Lavalin grounds (De Bleury Street, adjacent to the Gesù Theatre) for the announcement of Centraide's 2010 campaign goal.
Centraide is an umbrella organization for 360 community agencies that help 500,000 people in difficulty on Montreal Island, in Laval and on the South Shore.
