/R E P E A T -- Trade Mission to Los Angeles - Montréal: A major one-stop production hub for the film and television industry/ Français
MONTRÉAL, March 5, 2017 /CNW Telbec/ - Ms. Manon Gauthier, the Ville de Montréal executive committee member responsible for culture, heritage, design, Space for Life and the status of women, will lead a three-day trade mission to Los Angeles accompanied by representatives of the Québec Film and Television Council (QFTC) and several major players in the Montreal film industry. The mission's objective is to position Montréal as a leading one-stop production hub in North America where American studios will find all the services they need.
"In the past few years, Montréal's film production expertise has become further refined, both in terms of filming infrastructures as well as visual and animation effects technologies. We intend to present an overall picture of our production resources to the Hollywood film industry, therefore, including the financial incentives we offer. Let's not forget that in 2015, international film shoots in Québec generated more than $310 million in economic benefits," said Ms. Gauthier.
The Montréal delegation is slated to visit most of the major Hollywood studios, including Universal, Fox, Sony Pictures and Warner Bros. Montréal's expertise in special effects and animation will be showcased, with presentations by such companies as BUF, Digital District, Hybride, Mr. X and Rodeo FX, among others.
"With more than 40 special effects and animation studios and a pool of 3,000 specialists, Montréal has earned a well-deserved international reputation in this field. Our goal is to draw on this expertise to promote Montréal-based talent and attract more film shoots to our city. To this end, it's clear that the Oscar for Best Sound Editing won last week by Sylvain Bellemare for his work on the Denis Villeneuve film Arrival will be a formidable calling card for Montréal!" added Ms. Gauthier.
