/R E P E A T -- Vanier College To Host First Slam Poetry Competition On April 7th/
SAINT-LAURENT, QC, April 6, 2016 /CNW Telbec/ - Vanier College will be hosting its first Slam Poetry Competition on April 7th 2016. The event, entitled Speak Up Vanier will be held in the Auditorium starting at 7 p.m. More than 20 young Montrealers will be participating.
" I feel as if, in this technological era people fear expressing themselves because if they do, someone might judge or attack them. In other words, nowadays it's just harder for us to express ourselves. Nonetheless, I created the competition just for that, so people can embrace themselves for who they are and not who they should be. I want people to know that they are not alone in this world, we are here with you and we will make a difference together," said Vanier student Nayem Alam, who is organizing the event.
A poetry slam or spoken word competition involves participants performing original work alone or in teams of up to 5 people before an audience and judges. The work is judged on the manner and enthusiasm of its performance as well as its content or style. Musical instruments are also allowed to be used and participants have between 2 and 5 minutes to perform.
When: Thursday April 7th from 7:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
Where: Vanier College Auditorium(a -103), 821 Ave Ste Croix, Saint Laurent
