Atomic Energy of Canada Limited's (AECL) top priority is returning the National Research Universal (NRU) reactor to service as safely and as quickly as possible. AECL has released the following videos outlining progress to date on the NRU Return to Service Plan.

First Video:

Hugh MacDiarmid, AECL President and CEO, explains how a global search for expert resources to assist in the NRU repair, lead the AECL team to Liburdi Automation Inc. located in Dundas, Ontario. In this video update, Hugh outlines the AECL/Liburdi partnership and how the capabilities of both organizations are keeping the NRU return to service plan on track.

Second Video:

Viewers will visit the shop floor of Liburdi Automation Inc. in Dundas, Ontario to see how they have accommodated the construction of a full scale NRU reactor mock-up and the complex work involved in creating a tool that can operate in a radioactive environment. Liburdi's Senior Engineer, Janusz Bialach and Managing Director, Robert Pistor, explain how Liburdi's global expertise in both aerospace and nuclear remote repair technology has assisted them in developing a tool that will successfully weld inside an irradiated aluminum reactor vessel.
