TORONTO, June 14, 2012 /CNW/ - Mathematics of Planet Earth is a worldwide initiative aimed at increasing awareness of the role mathematics plays in everything we experience on our planet. In conjunction with this initiative and the Canadian Applied and Industrial Mathematics Annual Meeting, three public talks will be given by internationally-acclaimed mathematical scientists on topics related to the Earth's natural dynamic processes and human-developed systems. The talks are aimed at a general audience and all are invited to attend.

What:		Public Lectures on the Mathematics of Planet Earth
When:		Sunday, June 24 at 2:30 p.m. L. Mahadevan (Havard) will speak on Motility: molecules, mechanics, mathematics and machines and at 4:00 p.m. David Earn (McMaster) will speak on Puzzles in the Patterns of Plagues
		Monday, June 25 at 6:00 p.m., Ron Dembo (Zerofootprint) will speak on Using Mathematics to Combat Climate Change.
