rabble.ca changes Canada's media landscape with indie media merger
TORONTO, Nov. 8, 2013 /CNW/ - Two of Canada's most influential progressive independent media publications are combining efforts following the agreement by rabble.ca to join forces with Straight Goods News. As part of the agreement, rabble.ca will maintain an archive of the 13 years of online coverage provided by Straight Goods News, and has welcomed all Straight Goods News contributors to continue providing innovative coverage under the rabble.ca banner.
"We are honoured to have the Straight Goods News fine writing and legacy part of rabble.ca. It's not an easy time for independent media, but we're both survivors and this lets the best of Straight Goods News live on as rabble.ca continues to insert strong voices with alternative messages into the Canadian media landscape," said rabble.ca Publisher Kim Elliott.
rabble.ca has already started to work with Straight Goods News writers and staff on new projects, including the recent coverage of the Conservative convention and Pros & Cons counter-summit in Alberta: http://rabble.ca/issues/politics-in-canada.
"It's hard to say goodbye to a dream, but it made sense for us to pass the torch on to a publication that is in sync with our objectives," said Straight Goods News Publisher Ish Theilheimer.
"Combining the strengths of both publications is great news for our shared readership, as well as for our funders and members," said rabble.ca Director of Emerging Media, Wayne MacPhail. "This merger can only enhance rabble.ca's ability to harness emerging media to tell compelling, progressive stories in new ways."
rabble.ca is Canada's most popular source for independent news and views, and features original news, opinion, book reviews, podcasts and live and pre-recorded videos exploring issues facing Canadians. rabble.ca marked 12 years of providing 100 per cent free news content to Canadians on April 18, 2013.
