rabble.ca says Canadians Need A Rex Change: rabble launches The Not Rex
Murphy Contest to provide balance to CBC commentator

TORONTO , Jan. 12 /CNW/ - Today rabble.ca launches The Not Rex Murphy Contest - a search for balancing voices to Rex Murphy's contributions on CBC's The National. The public is invited to submit videos or a statement about why they should replace Rex. A panel of judges will narrow it down to finalists and the public will vote for the winner. The winner will do the first three rabble video commentaries on the same night that Rex delivers his commentary, providing Canadians with critical insights, inspiration, vision and, most importantly, an antidote to The Rex.

"Tens of thousands agree: We have had enough of Rex Murphy and his reactionary, mean-spirited attacks on all the things that make Canada a great place to live. Since CBC hasn't put any balancing voices to Rex on their flagship news show, The National, rabble.ca will do our part," says rabble Director of Emerging Technology Wayne MacPhail.

Judges for the contest are new media journalist, consultant, video podcaster and web 2.0 guru Amber MacArthur, journalist, broadcaster, author and rabble guest Senior Contributing editor Murray Dobbin , rabble tv editor Tor Sandberg, and rabble publisher Kim Elliott .

For the contest, rabble.ca will be using the new YouTube Direct feature, allowing participants to load content directly from the rabble.ca site. Contest rules can be found at: rabble.ca/rabbletv/notrex.

To celebrate rabble's love for independent media, the contest will run through Valentine's Day ( February 14th ) with the winner(s) being announced in early March.
