Racing Future releases Submission on Implementing the Announced Integration of the Horse Racing Industry into the Overall Ontario Gaming Strategy
TORONTO, May 3, 2013 /CNW/ - The commitment of the Ontario government to fully integrate horse racing into the overall provincial gaming strategy - announced on March 8 by Premier Kathleen Wynne and confirmed by Finance Minister Charles Sousa in yesterday's Budget - is a very important step toward safeguarding and enhancing the future of the horse racing and breeding industry which forms the economic backbone in many rural areas and is an important source of employment and prosperity in our province
In anticipation of the question "What does integrating horse racing into the overall provincial gaming strategy actually mean in practice?", Racing Future has prepared a submission of specific suggestions that incorporate input from our discussions with various people and organizations around the globe with leading-edge expertise in this field.
This submission is intended to suggest potential key elements of integration and to demonstrate that the process of integration can be launched quickly on the basis of readily available information, thereby enabling the Ontario government to significantly increase its revenue streams from gaming at a time of pressing financial challenges.
The specific suggestions detailed on our submission include renaming and rebranding OLG as the Ontario Lottery, Gaming and Horse Racing Commission (OLGH) with a proposed new logo to reflect its expanded mandate; creating a new lottery based on horse racing; providing betting on horse racing through current and future OLGH retail terminals; making online betting part of the new online gaming presence to which OLG is already committed; expanding access to teletheatre/offtrack race watching and wagering; and including horse racing in all OLGH promotion and marketing activities.
We have provided our submission to the Horse Racing Transition Panel
