Rael applauds Canadian judge for overturning Ontario brothel ban
LAS VEGAS, Oct 5 /CNW Telbec/ - The Ontario Superior Court recently decriminalized pimping, soliciting and running brothels in Ontario Province after three prostitutes decided to challenge the ban on the practice. The prostitutes argued that they were risking their lives by having to sell their services in the streets.
Judge Susan Himel based her decision to overturn the ban on the basis that such a law violates a constitutional clause that guarantees "the right to life, liberty and security."
Rael, leader of the International Raelian Movement, today issued the following statement in support of Judge Himel's decision:
"This is great recognition of individual freedom for sexual workers. People must have freedom of choice to sell their bodies for money instead of selling use of their hands in factories or use of their brains in intellectual work. It is only the medieval prejudice created by monotheistic religions, especially Catholicism, that has made everything connected to sex taboo and dirty in the name of a god that doesn't exist."
In a past speech on the subject, Rael explained that whenever a person does something for money, such an act constitutes prostitution.
"I prefer to see a girl sell use of her body for sex than see a scientist sell use of his brain to a weapons industry that will use that knowledge to kill millions of people," Rael said. "Sex - so long as it is protected sex - never threatens to kill anybody."
Rael also reinforced the necessity of absolute freedom for sex workers:
"We must let everyone have the freedom to live their lives the way they want. Freedom is the key. Of course, whenever a woman or man is victimized and forced into prostitution by pimps, gangsters or criminal prostitution networks, we must fight such victimization and protect the victims. But as long as it is the free will of independent adults, we must respect their freedom to make money the way they want to."
He added, "There is another kind of prostitution that is morally and socially well-accepted kind. Some women marry rich men only for their money. They can even have children with these rich husbands, whom they selected for their wealth to give beautiful futures to their children. But this is also prostitution! Yet it's done every day and it's well respected by everybody!"
According to the Raelian philosophy, the only situation lacking any form of prostitution is when a person does something he or she loves without expecting anything in return. Some people are lucky enough to have the privilege doing jobs that are also their passion.
This should be everybody's privilege, according to Raelian philosophy. In fact, one of the basic principles of that philosophy is: Do whatever you like, so long as you don't hurt or kill anyone, including yourself, and be sure to use your life to improve the level of love, science, consciousness and happiness on this planet.
"Can a prostitute improve levels of love, science, consciousness and happiness on this planet?" Rael asked. "Certainly it's possible! And can a non-prostitute, monogamous, traditional Catholic woman, damage the levels of love, science, consciousness and happiness on Earth? Certainly I can answer yes to that question also. So it's definitely not the body part used for making a living that is important to consider, but rather what effect one's actions have on improving the well being of humanity."
