Rael's Expresses his Approval of Ontario Superior Court's to Make Brothels Legal
TORONTO, April 5, 2012 /CNW Telbec/ - Rael, leader of the International Raelian Movement (IRM), today expressed his approval of the Ontario Superior Court's recent decision to make brothels legal after three prostitutes challenged laws banning their business.
The plaintiffs argued that they were risking their lives by having to sell their services in the streets, and they won their case, with the court ruling last week that current laws "unfairly discriminate against prostitutes and their ability to work in safe environments."
The new ruling by the panel of five judges will take effect after one year. The ruling stated, in part: "The record is clear that the safest way to sell sex is for a prostitute to work indoors, in a location under her control."
"This is great recognition of individual freedom for sexual workers," Rael said in an official statement released today by the IRM. "People must have freedom of choice to sell their bodies for money instead of selling the use of their hands in factories or the use of their brains in intellectual work. Medieval prejudice created by monotheistic religions, especially Catholicism, has pronounced everything connected to sex taboo and dirty in the name of a god that doesn't exist."
In a past speech on the subject, Rael explained that whenever a person does something for money, such an act constitutes prostitution.
"I prefer to see a girl sell use of her body for sex rather than see a scientist sell use of his brain to a weapons industry that will use that knowledge to kill millions of people," Rael said."Sex, so long as it is protected sex, never threatens to kill anybody."
He also reinforced the necessity of absolute freedom for sex workers: "We must let everyone have the freedom to live their lives the way they want. Freedom is the key. Of course, whenever a woman or man is victimized and forced into prostitution by pimps, gangsters or criminal prostitution networks, we must fight such victimization and protect the victims. But as long as it is the free will of independent adults, we must respect their freedom to make money the way they want to."
He added, "There is another kind of prostitution that is morally and socially well-accepted. Some women marry rich men only for their money. They can even have children with these rich husbands, whom they selected for their wealth to give beautiful futures to their children. But this is also prostitution! Yet it's done every day and it's respected by almost everybody!"
Can a prostitute improve levels of love, science, consciousness and happiness on this planet?" Rael asked. "Certainly, that's possible! And can a non-prostitute, monogamous, traditional Catholic woman, damage the levels of love, science, consciousness and happiness on Earth? Certainly I can answer yes to that question also. So it's definitely not the body part used for making a living that is important to consider, but rather what effect one's actions have on improving the well being of humanity."
