Rally at Wingham District Hospital Thursday to draw attention of new Minister to cutbacks
WINGHAM, ON, June 25, 2014 /CNW/ - Staff of the Wingham District hospital will rally on Thursday July 26, at noon, to protest plans to cut staff and services, says Michael Hurley, president of the Ontario Council of Hospital Unions/CUPE (OCHU).
Downsizing hospitals, cutting beds and shedding services has been the basis for the provincial Liberal government's health care delivery reforms. Small rural hospitals are particularly threatened under this plan.
Wingham residents held a community meeting in May to discuss the cutbacks at the hospital. A lawn sign campaign is now in full swing.
The rally will be held at the main entrance of the hospital. Wingham and District Hospital is located at 270 Carling Terrace, in Wingham.
