Set in a futuristic world, Mission Hack invites developers across Canada to leverage technology and rethink human interactions to shape the New Earth
MONTREAL, March 2, 2018 /CNW Telbec/ - Randstad Canada, the Canadian leader for staffing, recruitment and HR Services, is pleased to invite participants across the country to take part in Mission Hack, the first national hackathon series organized by Hackworks Inc. in collaboration with Intact Financial Corporation. Mission Hack will visit several cities, including Toronto this weekend (March 2-4), Vancouver (March 16-18) and Montreal (April 6-8), in order to showcase Canadian developers' talent and versatility in a fun and creative way.
Designed for tech people who want to push the limits of their imagination, Mission Hack will offer the opportunity to demonstrate new ideas about the future. Participants will have to use the technology of their choice to prototype solutions for one of the four challenges: human ambition, new economy, infrastructure and healthy community.
"In today's digital and high tech economy, the unique skill sets of developers are highly sought-after by virtually all industries and organizations. We are very proud to launch our first hackathon series, which perfectly aligns with our human forward brand identity: looking ahead, keeping our eyes set on the future, fully leveraging all the possibilities that new technologies have to offer while nurturing and promoting human interactions and people's potential," says Carolyn Levy, President, Randstad Technologies.
"This initiative represents a unique opportunity to encourage developers across Canada to rethink how we can meet customers' needs and expectations," said Mathieu Lamy, Executive Vice President & Chief Operating Officer, Intact Financial Corporation. "It's an exciting time for Canadian businesses, as we look for new and meaningful ways to leverage technology and attract the best people to help us design faster, simpler and better experiences for customers."
A Futuristic Story
The International Organization for Galactic Exploration (IOGE) has just confirmed the discovery of a planet more Earth-like than Saturn's moon Enceladus. In an unprecedented agreement between the United Nations, the World Economic Forum, and governments of all G8 countries, funding has been secured to send a group of 80,000 settlers to establish a New Earth colony.
The Settlement Project is an opportunity to demonstrate the reaches of human design and the capacity of technological advancement.
Out-of-this-world Challenges
Mission Hack is an opportunity for participants to submit an application to be selected as a contributor of the fictional Settlement Project, and as an architect of New Earth. Applicants will need to prototype a technology that solves a problem for life on New Earth in one of four categories in order to win over up to $10,000 in prizes.
Human ambition: New Earth will provide a unique opportunity to redefine education, work and information management. Participants have to build a solution that optimizes both human ambition and the potential of technology.
New economy: The Settlement Project will require resources to be shared and managed in new ways. Participants have to build tools to define how this will be shaped.
Infrastructure: The Settlement Project will lay the groundwork for an expanding society of future settlers. Designing scalable systems built with connected technologies is critical in order to ensure that the infrastructure is suitable for New Earth. Participants need to propose a solution that can be a part of this infrastructure.
Healthy community: The constraints of illness, aging and chronic sickness are barriers that challenge individuals' contribution to society. Participants must design and build tools that will promote personal health and facilitate healthy community interactions.
