RBC and Collins Barrow to co-host succession planning workshop
DARTMOUTH, N.S., Nov. 28, 2012 /CNW/ - RBC and Collins Barrow are partnering to co-host "Your Business, Your Legacy," a workshop on succession planning for businesses in the Halifax area on November 29. The session will address topics ranging from exit options to business valuation and tax strategies.
"Succession planning is an ongoing challenge for many business owners who have spent a great deal of time and money building up their legacies," says Mark Marshall, partner, Collins Barrow Nova Scotia. "At Collins Barrow, we work closely with clients to structure and implement effective business succession plans so they can transition smoothly into their next endeavours."
"When it comes to transferring or selling their companies, business owners want to make sure that they get the best value for their company," said Janet Martin, vice president, Commercial Financial Services, Halifax, RBC Royal Bank. "They also want to be confident that their business is in capable hands in order to continue their legacy, which is why it's important to start the process of grooming a successor early on and set realistic expectations."
"Successfully transitioning a business requires considerable advanced planning, so it will be important for companies to act soon to avoid leaving money on the table," said Michael Drohan, investment advisor, RBC Dominion Securities. "Owners who plan in advance are better positioned to provide for their family's future, minimize future tax liability and improve the financial stability of the business."
"Your Business, Your Legacy" takes place November 29 at the Holiday Inn Harbourview Hotel, 101 Wyse Road in Dartmouth, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Advance registration is recommended by contacting Jane Keilty-Smith at [email protected].
