RBC donates $50,000 to Red Cross to benefit Chilean relief
TORONTO, March 3 /CNW/ - RBC today announced a $50,000 donation to the Canadian Red Cross to support relief and humanitarian efforts in Chile.
"As the scope of the quake's damage becomes clearer, so too does the need to provide humanitarian relief to the many people affected by the damage," said Michael Lagopoulos, head, International Wealth Management for RBC. "We have a long history of responding when our communities and clients need help, and on behalf of our employees in the region and around the world, we are proud to support the work of the Red Cross with a donation."
"We are grateful for such a generous contribution from RBC," said Conrad Sauvé, secretary general of the Canadian Red Cross. "As the Red Cross responds to the tragedy in Chile, we are pleased to see Canadian corporations like RBC making important contributions that will help deliver urgent aid to those in need."
Following the devastating earthquake, Chile has requested mobile bridges, satellite telephones, electric generators, water purification systems and dialysis centres, according to the United Nations. In addition, the Red Cross will use funds raised to provide urgent relief goods, tents and tarpaulins as well as a field hospital, generators, water and sanitation teams and logistics support.
