HALIFAX, Nov. 2, 2012 /CNW/ - RBC's operations in Halifax Regional Municipality are in growth mode again with the announcement of yet another retail store, this time in Upper Tantallon, and with the opening of a new Commercial Banking Centre in Bedford. The news follows on the heels of two other recent announcements, the retail store at Hemlock Square off Larry Uteck Blvd., and the move in fall 2014 of its Atlantic Headquarters and Royal Centre branch to the new RBC Waterside Centre on the corner of Hollis and Duke.
"Halifax is our largest market in Atlantic Canada, and our personal and commercial businesses have grown to the point where we need to expand - which is a good problem to have!" said Kim Mason, regional president, RBC, Atlantic Canada. "We are thrilled to be opening our latest retail store in Tantallon, which is one of the fastest growing communities in the city. We can't wait to showcase the new retail design, the technology, the convenience of evening and Saturday hours, and of course, our fabulous team. The new Commercial Centre in Bedford is specifically dedicated to supply chain financing, and the team is comprised of industry specialists who have the deep knowledge required to meet the complex needs and demands of clients in this business segment."
Located at 5280 St. Margaret's Bay Road, the Upper Tantallon retail store will be the fourth of its kind in Atlantic Canada and only the 50th in all of Canada. The new 2,800 square foot store, which will open in spring 2013, represents an investment of eight new positions for RBC in the Upper Tantallon market. RBC's retail stores offer a fresh take on the bank branch experience with interactive advice areas, 'touch' or surface screen technology, and a more open area for customers.
The Bedford Commercial Centre houses RBC's Nova Scotia supply chain specialists, and is RBC's third commercial banking centre in HRM, and its sixth in the province. Three account managers with an average of 31 years banking experience and an associate account manager work from the new Bedford office.
RBC has a strong presence in Halifax Regional Municipality, with more than 170,000 clients served by its 325 employees currently working out of 17 branches, three business centres, a private banking office and its Atlantic Headquarters. RBC also continues to be committed to the province through its community investment program. Last year, RBC gave over $1,475,000 to causes and charities in Nova Scotia.
RBC has the largest branch and ATM network and the strongest geographic reach from coast to coast with over 1,200 branches - 17 per cent more than the closest competing financial institution - and 4,227 ATMs across the country. The newly designed retail stores are part of RBC's commitment to evolving its branch network into a best in class retail store and advice centre by addressing clients' four key needs: service, advice, access and convenience, and value for money.
