KESWICK, ON, Aug. 2, 2018 /CNW/ - On July 16th 2018, Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) officers in Montreal, Quebec intercepted three packages containing a total of 10 kilograms of Opium, consigned to an address in Keswick, Ontario. Packages were later turned over to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), for further investigation.
On July 25th, 2018, RCMP officers attended at the consignee's address in Keswick. A male, later identified as Iraj Yousefi was observed taking possession of a package and then discarding all of the labelling information in the garbage. RCMP arrested Yousefi a short distance away from the residence in Keswick.
Iraj Yousefi (50 years old) was charged with the following:
- Importation of a controlled substance (Opium) into Canada x3- contrary to the CDSA;
- Conspiracy to possess a controlled substance (Opium) for the purpose of trafficking x 3-contrary to the CCC;
- Possession of a controlled substance (Opium) for the purpose of trafficking-contrary to the CDSA;
- Conspiracy to import controlled substance (Opium) into Canada x 3– contrary to the CCC);
Yousefi will next appear in court today in Newmarket, Ontario.
