LONDON, ON, May 4, 2012 /CNW/ - On May 1st, 2012, The London Detachment of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police Serious and Organized Crime Unit executed a search warrant at a London residence which resulted in Tracey Anderson, 40 years of age, being charged with two offences under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. These include the possession of heroin for the purpose of trafficking and importing heroin into Canada.
The Department of Homeland Security in Memphis, Tennessee intercepted a package containing approximately 500 grams of heroin. This package originated from India and was destined for an address in London, Ontario. U.S. Homeland Security turned the package over to the RCMP for further investigation. A complex concealment method was discovered using elements of the packaging to hide 500 grams of heroin which has an approximate street value of $100,000.00.
"Organized crime groups are heavily involved in the illegal heroin drug trade and care nothing about community well-being", stated Inspector Dwight Blok, Officer in Charge of RCMP London Detachment. He added, "Each and every arrest, project, seizure or investigation sends a message and makes a difference."
The accused was released with conditions and will appear at the London court house on June 29, 2012.
