RCMP Commissioner Brenda Lucki launches the 2019 Musical Ride Tour

OTTAWA, May 15, 2019 /CNW/ - Today, RCMP Commissioner Brenda Lucki visited the Musical Ride stables to perform the annual Commissioner's Inspection of this year's troop of horses and riders on the world-renowned Musical Ride.

This event officially kicks off the Musical Ride tour, which will visit communities in Ontario, Quebec and Alberta this summer. In addition, this year's tour will include a stop at Breyerfest in Lexington, Kentucky, and one in Hay River, Northwest Territories.

Following the inspection, the Commissioner and visitors at the Musical Ride stables were treated to a performance, seeing first-hand that the Musical Ride is ready to represent the RCMP and Canada.

The Musical Ride is proud to uphold the rich heritage and traditions of the RCMP, while helping to raise funds for local charities and community initiatives across Canada.

Quick Facts

• The first recorded public display of the Musical Ride was in Regina, Saskatchewan, in 1901.
• The Musical Ride is composed of a troop of up to 32 riders and horses, plus the officer in charge. It consists of the execution of a variety of intricate figures and cavalry drill choreographed to music.
• The Musical Ride travels to every province on a rotational basis every four years to ensure that Canadians across the country are given an opportunity to see them perform.
• The Musical Ride is featured at the annual RCMP Sunset Ceremonies in Ottawa, scheduled for June 27–30.
• In 2018, the Musical Ride raised $812,000 for local charities.
