TORONTO, Aug. 9, 2013 /CNW/ - On August 11th, 2013, the RCMP Foundation will present a cheque in the amount of $2,800 to the Toronto Playgrounds Baseball Association - REP Program (TP REP). The presentation will also unveil a brand new pitching machine to be kept at Christie Pits Park which was purchased with the funds. The pitching machine gives the TP REP Program full-time access to hitting equipment at their home diamond.
"The timing for this donation from the RCMP Foundation couldn't have been better", stated RCMP Constable Christopher Crozier (TP REP coach). "Earlier this summer, two pitching machines were stolen from Toronto's Annette Park, a free practice facility used by various inner-city teams including the TP REP Program. Sadly, the replacement of these pitching machines is not covered by insurance and the costs are now left to Annette Park and the surrounding baseball associations. Until recently, the theft of these pitching machines has left inner-city baseball teams like the TP REP Program struggling to find inexpensive and localized hitting equipment."
The TP REP Program, based in Toronto's historic Christie Pits Park, allows inner-city at risk youth aged 9-18 a chance to participate in competitive sports at affordable registration fees. It is through the donations like that of the RCMP Foundation that allows our future generations to continue having inexpensive access to the sports they love.
The RCMP Foundation was created in 1994 to support community initiatives in which local RCMP members are involved. The members volunteer their time and energy to making a difference in the community and the lives of Canada's youth at risk.
Funds are raised by the RCMP Foundation's management of the RCMP licensing program and the operation of three retail stores in Ottawa, one in Chilliwack BC as well as the online store www.themountieshop.ca. They also hold events and involve their corporate partners in various activities. Funds raised are used to support drug awareness, child safety, literacy, bullying, self-help and victim services, internet safety, sports teams and events, all for the benefit of Canada's youth at risk.
