RCMP Seize Marihuana Plants from Outdoor Grow
LONDON, ON, Sept. 27 /CNW/ - On Friday, September 24th, 2010 the London Detachment of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, Drug Section with the assistance of London Police Service Guns & Drugs Section located and dismantled a marihuana grow operation from a corn field located in the area of Highbury Avenue North and Sunningdale Road East, London. RCMP Air Services was conducting an overhead patrol with members of London Police Services on an unrelated matter when they located the outdoor marihuana grow operation. The coordinates were provided to the London RCMP Drug Section who undertook an investigation into the illicit operation. Police located 150 plants in various stages of growth with an estimated value of $150,000.
No arrests have been made but the investigation is ongoing.
Illegal marihuana growers who set up outdoor grow operations such as this have been known to arm themselves, set traps and/or have guard dogs to protect their operation from other criminal elements," stated Inspector Dwight Blok, Officer in Charge of London Detachment. "Although, this did not appear to be the case in this particular operation, we want to warn the public who may accidentally find an outdoor grow operation to be careful and notify local police or the RCMP."
