Ready to go the extra mile for youth mental health
Registration now open for 2019 RBC Race for the Kids
TORONTO, May 6, 2019 /CNW/ - Registration is now open for the 2019 RBC Race for the Kids, in support of Sunnybrook's Family Navigation Project (FNP). The seventh annual event will take place at Mel Lastman Square in Toronto on Saturday, Sept. 14. Participants are encouraged to register early before the race sells out.
In Canada, 1.2 million youth struggle with mental health issues, while just one in five receives the care they need. FNP provides critical guidance and support to families in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) as they seek mental health and addictions services for their children.
"We have excellent mental health care services in Ontario, but if people don't know how to access them, then patients and families get lost in the system," says Dr. Anthony Levitt, medical director of FNP. "That is why it is so important to have someone who can ensure patients are on the right path. FNP has helped more than 2,700 youth, which is made possible in part by the generosity of RBC and the many supporters of the RBC Race for the Kids."
Since 2013, the RBC Race for the Kids has raised more than $12 million, impacting local families. FNP's trained navigators serve the entire GTA region, helping families from Halton to Durham find timely and appropriate treatment services for youth aged 13 to 26.
