Real-life political star Justin Trudeau films guest spot on VisionTV's city
hall comedy She's The Mayor
TORONTO, May 27 /CNW/ - Rising political star Justin Trudeau will make a special appearance on VisionTV's original new comedy series She's The Mayor, the producers revealed today.
Mr. Trudeau, Liberal Member of Parliament for the Montreal riding of Papineau, visited the Toronto set to film a cameo earlier this week.
Produced for VisionTV by Toronto-based Hungry Eyes Film & Television Inc., She's The Mayor stars Janet-Laine Green as Iris Peters, mayor of the dysfunctional city of Fairfax. A former school principal and political neophyte, Iris tries to bring her own brand of discipline to city hall while fighting her feelings for handsome deputy mayor Bill Clarke (Scott Wentworth).
She's The Mayor also stars Colin Mochrie as tightly wound, germophobic city manager Scott Lindford, and Tonya Lee Williams as Iris's glamorous, self-involved communications director, Maxine Williams.
Mr. Trudeau (http://justin.ca/), the eldest son of former Prime Minister Pierre Elliott Trudeau, is one of several real-life political figures to pay an on-screen visit to the fictitious community of Fairfax. The Right Honourable Kim Campbell (www.kimcampbell.com), Canada's first and only female prime minister, and renowned former Member of Parliament Jean Augustine, the first black woman elected to the House of Commons, have also filmed cameo appearances.
She's The Mayor was created by Jennifer Holness, Min Sook Lee and Sudz Sutherland.
Said Ms. Holness: "She's The Mayor is a character-driven comedy set against the backdrop of city hall politics. The political side of the show is rooted in reality, and it lends great authenticity to have real-life politicians like Justin Trudeau step into this world we've created."
Hungry Eyes is producing 13 half-hours of She's The Mayor for VisionTV. The series is expected to premiere in 2010-2011.
Said Joan Jenkinson, VisionTV's Director of Independent Production: "Our cast has done an absolutely stellar job of bringing the fictional world of She's The Mayor to life. We're excited to see what happens when Mayor Iris and her team interact with figures from the real world."
