Recognition for seven companies and organizations for their greener
containers, packaging and printed matter

MONTREAL , Oct. 19 /CNW Telbec/ - In the presence of the Minister of Sustainable Development, Environment and Parks, Line Beauchamp, Éco Entreprises Québec (ÉEQ) highlighted the exceptional contribution of seven companies and organizations as part of the Greener Containers, Packaging and Printed Matter: Today's Reality, Today's Opportunities! Recognition Program. The ceremony took place in Montreal during the Producing and Consuming in a New Way Symposium.

    
    A committee of independent experts selected the following five winners
    from all applications received.

    - A. Lassonde Inc., for improving the design and reducing the weight of
      its 300 ml fruit juice and beverage plastic bottle.
    - Cascades Fine Papers Group, for designing a ream wrapper made from 100%
      recycled and recyclable fibre.
    - Revenu Québec, for significantly reducing the amount of paper used for
      its administrative communications.
    - TELUS, for eliminating plastic packaging and using only 100% recycled
      and recyclable paper for its accessories box packaging.
    - Yves Rocher, for marketing its Eco-Refill, Inositol Végétal line of
      products.

    The committee also decided on two special awards to highlight the
    contributions of:

    - Les Eaux Naya Inc., for marketing a water bottle made of 50% post-
      consumer recycled plastic;
    - Société des alcools du Québec, for eliminating single-use bags.
    

The Producing and Consuming in a New Way Symposium provided the five winners with an opportunity to showcase their environmentally-friendly container, packaging or printed matter. They presented the process that led them to defining their best practices and achieving the recognition of their peers. "ÉEQ believes in the importance of sharing information on best practices to make companies more accountable for the consequences of their choice of container, packaging and printed matter," commented Maryse Vermette, President and General Manager of Éco Entreprises Québec. "Over the coming years, ÉEQ expects to adjust its contribution schedule to include more environmental criteria that will both encourage green packaging and penalize packaging that is difficult to recycle," concluded Ms. Vermette .
